A World in Motion

In conjunction with the Society of Automotive Engineer, the Urban League offered a ten-week after school, spring break and summer camp entitled "A World in Motion". This program focused on science and engineering was supported by the Urban League's 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant and served 98 children in grades 3, 4 and 5 during its first year.

Scholastic Book Distribution
In an effort to promote literacy, the Urban League distributed 30000 books to students and parents at Title 1 Elementary Schools and other organizations serving low-income families and youth. This program was made possible by a partnership with Scholastic, Inc. and the National Urban League.

National Achievers Society
The National Achievers Society (NAS) is the National Urban League's academic honor society. The society promotes and rewards academic excellence and scholarship among African American and Latino students in grades 9 - 12. Acceptance into the NAS is a reflection of significant academic accomplishment. Students must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA and exhibit excellent behavior. During 2006-07. 46 students were enrolled in the program and they participated in a variety of learning experiences from college preparation workshops to volunteer work at the Tennessee River Gorge Trust. Out of the 46 students enrolled, 18 were seniors. This program was tremendous benefit for the seniors as they received assistance with completing college and scholarship applications.

The major partners of the National Achievers Society include the Community Foundation Chattanooga, Hunter Museum of American Art, and the College Access Center.

Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair
In November 2007, the Urban League in partnership with the Infinite Scholars Program, a national leader in recruiting minority and other students for college scholarship programs, hosted its first annual Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair. Twenty-five college recruiters participated in the fair and had an opportunity to meet 300 high school junior and seniors from Hamilton Country public, private, home schools.

With nearly 300 students attending this college fair, 129 were awarded over $2.4 million in scholarships. Due to the great success of the 2007 Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair, the Urban League is planning the 2nd annual fair in Fall 2008.
